Halloween 2019 (and spooky deals)
November 6, 2019Merry Christmas!
December 23, 2019Welcome to the first in our series of "Focus On" where we pick a useful piece of equipment to fill you in on a little. From the humble pallet jack to the seriously heavy duty machines, this set of blog posts aims to keep you up to date on developments from our brands as well as give us a chance to tell you about some of our favorites.
Today we're introducing the Crown WP 3000. The latest in the WP line of electric walkie jacks, the WP 3000 has a host of features designed to keep it working for you no matter how tough an environment you use it in.
Replaceable steel wear blocks have been engineered to protect your equipment from the most common impact points when rounding corners and coming across dock plates. As simple as a brick of steel and a couple of bolts, attention to details like this is what makes Crown one of the world's leading suppliers in pallet handling machines.
To aid stability (especially while carrying a load) the WP 3000 has replaceable skid bars designed to limit how much each unit can list side to side. This helps to boost both product and operator safety, and ensures that only the most extreme situations will find your hard working jack on its side. Love your floors or just don't like the idea of bare metal dragging along it when your tire gets worn? Crown has you covered with optional casters with many of the same compound options as their load wheels.
Worried about the "working parts" getting abused from use? The WP 3000 has everything carefully locked away behind metal covers and designed with constant use in mind. With a cast iron gearbox, helical gearing, and tapered bearings the main drive unit houses an AC traction system and brushless motor Along with e-GEN Braking this helps to almost eliminate brake maintenance and simplify motor servicing.
Not content to leave it at that however Crown went the extra distance and made sure the rest of the machine is just as tough. Unlike many competitors the chassis on the Crown WP 3000 is a single piece of steel, not plastic or different pieces bolted together. Customers have even dropped WP units off their loading docks without doing much more than cosmetic damage to the frame (we don't recommend testing this though, as the control handles don't usually survive this kind of abuse). We don't mean the handles are delicate though! Made from a two-piece cast aluminum, the proprietary Crown X10 handle design is actually far tougher than most of the competition, protecting the controls and impacts in tight spaces (trailer walls, racking, other loads, etc...)
Crown even makes sure the forks and undercarriage are ready for the rigors of daily use. Made from "C" channel the heavy duty construction of the forks isn't just to resist the wear of constantly moving product. Hiding beneath those forks is an innovative pull-rod design that helps minimize any risk of bending the forks by keeping the working forces in line with the structural strength of the forks themselves. This "C" channel design also allows the WP 3000 to keep the axle for its fork risers as high as possible and away from the jarring impacts of pallet entry and dock boards. Boxed in, reinforced tips also help withstand those impacts for longer while at the same time preventing debris from collecting in front of the load wheels.
Instead of leaving bare metal to work itself sloppy Crown has ensured that these heavy wear points are protected with wearable bushings. Paired with regular maintenance these bushings help ensure that everything works smoothly for longer, and when it comes time for repairs they make such replacements small and easy instead of having to replace expensive major components. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure after all.
When it comes to wheels Crown has a simple number system for picking wheels, compressing a lot of data into a single handy page for reference. Ranging from the "light duty" 100 series, through the freezer optimal 200s, the varied compounds in the 300 series, and the heavy duty 400s, there's a wheel out there for you! Casters and load wheels both are wear items that can save your floors and machines a lot of wear and tear when kept well serviced.
Paired with wheels are tires (to make things move!) that put the power to the pavement! Multiple options in rubber and polyurethane are available in a huge variety of sizes. Smooth or rugged, sipped, grooved, and more! There is a perfect tire for your application just waiting for you. One of our most popular options is the -243-04 poly tire: perfect for deck boards, metal chips and other floor debris, wet and freezer conditions. These tires help ensure that your qualified operators maintain the control they need to stay safe and efficient.
Most recently Crown has been rolling out a new series of Lithium-ion batteries. With up to 40% higher energy efficiency, these compact powerhouse batteries will serve you well. As sealed, completely maintenance free units, you can forget having to worry about watering or battery out-gassing! This in turn lets you save on costs by avoiding costly added ventilation systems in older environments and expands the number of places you can use your WP!
